Contours of Change

On April 7, Island Gallery opens Contours of Change — a group exhibition at Kujaku Gallery in Kyobashi, Tokyo. Three photographers: myself, Oi, and Hideo Ishijima, brought together around a simple idea.

Nature is never still, even when it looks quiet. Wind, water, temperature, time. The world keeps rewriting its own outline.

I'm showing four photographs. Each one a small pause inside that longer motion.

This image was made on a winter morning in the Tokamachi area. Snow held to the tops of the trees, and a pale fog folded the background into silence. I had to stop the car — quickly, before the scene changed again. What a wonderful morning it was.

Contours of change aren't always obvious. Sometimes they arrive as something barely shifting, almost gone… and still present enough to stay with you.
