Kyoto matsuri

As summer finally draws to an end (and I must say, I’m quite glad it does), I’m sharing here some pictures from Kyoto’s famous Gion Matsuri. Considered one of Japan’s three great festivals — 三大祭 — it is a spectacle of tradition and energy. This series, however, is not about the festival itself. Instead, I chose to capture moments of young people enjoying the atmosphere on the outskirts of the main event. Surely, these are moments they will remember for a long time.
